One awesome day in Bucharest! :)

We wanted to take advantage of this beautiful and sunny day, so we've spent it in the center of our lovely Bucharest. We started from the North Train Station ( "Gara de Nord" subway station) and went for a turkish coffee (prepared in a special way, boiled on sand) served with free cookies :), in a special indian place named Ramayana. Every room is painted in a different color and you really feel that you are in the heart of India. Really warm and cozy, a perfect place if you want to start the day with a good state of mind. (1 coffee - 2 euro)

After this boost of energy, we went walking to the Leonidas Chocolaterie to buy sweet belgian chocolate. It was so hard to decide!!! :D  (1 chocolate - 4 euro)
Also, on the way there, the George Enescu Museum is worth a stop. Even if only for the beautiful architecture.

We continued from there by taking the subway from Victoriei Square Subway Station  ("Piata Victoriei") to University Subway Station ("Universitate") where one of a kind coffee shop "Delicatese Florescu" awaits you. This place is filled with history due to its owner, Gheorghe Florescu, the former disciple of Avedis Carabelaian, the supplier of the Romanian Royal House. Mr. Florescu and his daughter, wich will take over the buisness, welcomed us with their arms opened. They are warm and friendly and they helped us with choosing our coffee and also served us the best coffee we've ever tasted. You can taste and buy from there a big diversity of international coffee, starting from 1 euro/100g to 35 euro/100g (the most expensive coffe in the world, Kopi Luwak), wines and a large variety of specialties (natural honey, dry fruits, chocolate etc.). The coffee there is always fresh, and Mr. Florescu will guide you through the secrets of this art, the art of making coffee. Mr Florescu, despite his age, is as full of energy as his beloved coffee. Touche! :D His smile was carried by our lips in all the places we've visited afterwards, and followed us home. We cannot wait to finish the coffee we've bought to just visit him again. A truly remarcable human being.

After this pleasent coffee tasting we walked to Old City Center, which is only 5 minutes away, visiting many shops, but we can say that we were amazed by one in particular, named "Barza Viezure Manz'' ( Stork Badger Foal), where you can find the best authentic and traditional Romanian products. Pictures talk for themselvs. Even the famous romanian drink 'palinca' or 'tuica' is there :)). We bought home made bread at 8 euro/1 kg.

So after all the tasting and shopping it was time for fooling around on some special stairs. It is about a narrow street, 2 bus stations away from Old City Center, named Xenofon Street (after a romanian writer). The little street is painted as a waterfall and it is unique in Bucharest. Enjoy laughing while being carried away by the dangerous waves! :)))))))

PS: Thanks cuz' for this awesome time!!!! Love ya'!!!! :)

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR A WEEKEND-BREAK IN BUCHAREST THE CAPITAL OF ROMANIA?

A lot! :)
I define Bucharest a city of contrasts. There are so many things to do here: visiting museums, old churches, archaeological sites, trying restaurants, bars, clubs, shopping in the malls, sports, walking in the old city center or relaxing in the parks.
I will teach you how you can manage to do those things in 2 days weekend-break.
In the first day a long walk in the old city center is a must. You can admire People's House (Palace of the Parliament), the biggest and expensive administrative building in the world, for reservation, price and vissiting hours check http://www.cdep.ro/pls/cic/site.visits?idv=2 .Then go on the narrow streets where the restaurants, bars and clubs are to see the old houses, old churches and the impressive archaeological sites.
If you want to try traditional food you should go to Caru' cu Bere Restaurant, located there and you should eat ''belly soup'' at 3 euro/person and Caru' cu Bere Plateau at 15 euro/2 persons, it is a must! They have artistic program every evening. A reservation is needed 1 day before arriving.
You can find it all on their website:

After the walk you should go to see one of the most beautiful libraryes in the world, Carturesti Library and drink a coffe or a tea there.
If you are a club lover or you want to make new friends you can go in Old City Club or in Drunken Lords Club all situated in the old city center.

Second day you should relax in the park as Park Tineretului which is near the city center by renting a bike or if you are a shopaholic you can go in one of the malls and spend all your money :)) or you can jump with the parashute on Clinceni Aerodrom near Bucharest, at a price of 207 euro/person/jump+video. For details check http://www.tnt-brothers.ro/

As accomodation, you can find starting at a price of 30 euro/room/night at a 3 stars hotel.
Transportation is acceptable: bus (0,25 euro/one way), tram (0,25 euro/one way), subway(1 euro/round way), train, taxi (take the ones that have written on the door 1,4 Lei/km the equivalent of 0,25 euro/km). If you want to take a taxi from Otopeni Airport you take a ticket from the jukebox that has the taxi's no. and then go outside to wait for your taxi. The journey from the airport to the center of Bucharest should cost around 30 Lei the equivalent of 7 euro.

RASNOV FORTRESS – ROMANIA 2009

In one of the previous articles I was talking about the things you can do for one day in Brasov city. So if you have a longer weekend-break there, you can also go to Rasnov city which is 15 km away to visit Rasnov Fortress. The first mentioned documentary about the fortifed citadel is dating from year 1335. It's contemporary appearance has known many changes so far, but retains architectural elements that tell a story about a fortress which successfully resisted the siege to which has been submitted. The fortress has two courts: external and internal and in the present you can visit the feudal art museum in which are exposed weapons, traditional tools and objects of torture. The view over the city from there will enchant you . :)
